Do That
05:51
|

"Do That" c. K.Murray
Well it seems theres a fashion
an old human passion for fitting in
not me
i dont do that
if this is a civilised society
its missing its humanity
and dont know
somehow its wilfully blind
Somehow our gods are technological
needs psycholgical, life biological
a moment in time, then nothing
i dont buy that
we've got labels for this, labels for that
everything and everywhere and everyone
just labels on a map
They say its a new kind of order
its just another border
its just a wishing well
dont kid yourself
well honey if it seems real nice
you can bet its a vice
its a major distraction from
where the real action is
dont do that
So we have new evangilists
rebuilding rome
selling us soap and keeping us home
man made boxes of shadows and light
they talk all day then they mock all night
we
we should be talking
men and women
but we dont do that
anymore
no.
we do our
typical, cynical
token intellectual
smart but ineffectual
we do that
and when we rally to a statement
we get crtics and resentment
endless meetings and amendments
smoke in the wind
so we stay
comfortable and ignorant
complacent and indifferent
silent and beligerent
tears in rain
we do that
they say theres a place and a time for political rhyme
they must be your rules
they're not mine
i dont do that
well right here right now
its not a matter of how
you draw a line in the sand
and anyone can
you just do that
right now we'll do our
syncopational
harmonic inspirational
discordant confronational
music of peace and of pain
no gain
lets do that
right now.......

"When the Jazz Musician Sings" c. K.Murray
Does it mean the gigs in trouble when the jazz musician sings
Cause normally he's happy playing odd notes while he swings, or
Does it mean you missed a coup'd'etat behind the wings
and some crooner lies unconcious while a time bell softly rings
and if he's singing like a tomcat could his reasons be the same
could this be a futile strategy to find or meet a dame
could it be a late attempt to grab some all illusive fame
are you witness to a sidestep that could end careers in shame
well it could be that his singin means a thousand different things
Does it mean the gigs in trouble when the jazz musician sings?.
well it might be desperation he may just have lost his nut
he might be trying to free himself from some viscotic rut
it could be a reaction to a world thats changing fast
or an exorcism of some demons hiding in his past
or the witnessing a million love songs falling on deaf ears
well its hard to watch the world ignore that greatest gift for years and years
or it could be just a substitute for shedding all his tears
or is he simply challenging his critics and his peers
well it could be that his singing means a thousand different things
are we heading into trouble when the jazz musician sings
The reasons very simple let me end your guessing game
its a kind of anger management with a theraputic aim you see
these machines kills fascists i heard woody guthrie say
now theres none left in the folks clubs where the righteous go to pray
but there might be some in jazz world its an easy place to hide
theres a shortage of considered verse its a swingin note filled ride
so with great resolve just so you know that all the jazz we play is
aimed at any nazi's hiding mongst you good folks today
our ammunitions friendly so please dont move away
cause the decent won't be troubled when the jazz musicians play.

Guilty

|

"Guilty" c. K.Murray
you say we're moving forward from a comfy chair
well its easy when your sitting to suggest that you care
but our priveliged perspectives all our points and views
we're not helping anybody just by catching the news
i might be preaching and
its not sunday
i may talk like a fool
i may be stating the obvious
i may be sounding uncool
but while we walk in golden sunlight and we bathe amongst its rays
while we pretend we're Gods good people and we can wash all sins away
when we witness distant cruelties we all live on elsewhere street
but when all our neighbours kids lie hungry pleading at our feet
will we hear at all
tell me will we hear them them at all
brothers can you hear them at all
sisters do you hear them at all
We see fat cats getting fatter we see nations collide
we watch like dumb spectators on a fairground ride
we see poverty's abundance growing fast in daylight
we learn to shut our eyes and sleep sound through the night
we
we watch movies
while mothers watch their kids starve
we are guilty one and all we are
if we go quietly when we should be getting louder
we are guilty
When you look upon your kingdom and you watch your children play
well its easy to believe its home where charity should stay
but if you look beyond your borders if you open up your eyes
you'll see that all our comforts lean on corporate lies
thats if you see at all
tell me if you see it at all
brother do you see it at all
sister do you see it at all
You say its only dreamers try to change this world
you say that trying to make a difference is simply absurd
but how much effort makes a difference for a third world child
how much would make you notice
how much would make you wild enough
to do something, something more than talking
are you guilty are you guilty
don't do nothing all inaction is collusion
don't be guilty don't be
Are you tough enough for poetry strong enough for love
are you ready for compassion or do you leave it to above
are you ready to try sowing something someone else can reap
are you ready to to more than making noises while you sleep
or don't you dream at all
maybe you don't dream at all
maybe you don't dream at all
we say nothing when we should be saying something
guilty
if we go gently when we should be kicking doors down
we are guilty one and all we are
if we tread softly when we should be jumping up and down
we are guilty one and all we are
if we play dumb when we should use our education
we are guilty one and all we are
if we get softer when we should be getting harder
we are guilty, we are guilty
if we go gently when we should be kicking doors down
we are guilty one and all we are
if we tread softly when we should be jumping up and down
we are guilty one and all we are
if we play dumb when we should use our education
silence is collusion
we are guilty one and all we are
our comforts an illusion
our silence a confusion, lately i don't sleep at all
if we play dumb when we should use our education
we are guilty one and all we are
if we tread softly when we should be jumping up and down
we are guilty one and all we are
lately i don't sleep at all
a girlfriend is delusion
We say nothing when we should be saying something.

Spider in a Bathtub
06:08
|
|||
"Spider in a Bath Tub" c.K.Murray
There was a spider in a bath tub in that classic twist of fate
well he had wandered far into the night just lookin for a mate
the noises of the morning told him he was in a spot
and all the climbing skills that kings admired were helping not a lot
the steep cliffs of enamel he'd been scaling for an hour
did'nt end his tribulations when he came upon a shower
the footsteps in the hallway echoed trouble on its way
and any minute now some nervous dame would come and spoil his day
somedays your better off staying in bed
somedays you make a stand when you should have fled
somedays every road is a cul de sac
somedays you face a climb that could break your back
all he wanted a little company
a safe encounter with a spider, preferably a she
a little something at the end of his shift
a special someone just to give him a lift
from the ceiling came a mocking laugh and he looked to see a fly
"hey buddy your in trouble she does'nt have a guy
well i've been dining 2 days here and the place is spick and clean
and i have'nt seen no cobwebs, you know what that means
and don't count on her being budhist i never heard her sing
and theres a thousand miles of glass and tiles before you climb out of that thing
you'd better face it your just a spider in a bath tub
ridiculous".
well the spider heard his heckler and he stopped to use his brain
then he dropped back in the bath tub and headed for the chain
when he heard the woman enter he was one link from the top
and so he clung with all his 8 tired legs frozen to the spot
but the lady had a schedule every morning was the same
and she attended to her face and teeth before she washed her mane
so the spider made a desperate dash inside that overspill
and then the thought that she might have a bath consumed him like a chill
somedays your better off staying in bed
somedays you made a stand when you should have fled
somedays every roads like a cul de sac
somedays you face a climb that could break your back
all he wanted a little company
a safe encounter with a spider, preferably a she
a little something at the end of his shift
a special someone cause we all need that lift
then the sound of falling water made him turn to see the view
but the clouds of steam arising did'nt tell him nothing new
when the woman stood inside the bath he knew it was a shower
then she stood right there before him like a freshly blooming flower
then something deep inside confirmed that his luck had changed
and so he watched the woman for a while and learned why all men are deranged
all men are deranged
when the lady left the bathroom he climbed slowly from his cave
well he was tired and wet and hungry, blessing fortune he'd been saved
then the sound of bursting bubbles made him look into the bath
as they vanished they revealed a sight that almost made him laugh
a motion he detected from the corner of his eye
had revealed stuck in the drain a freshly cleaned and 1/2 drowned fly
"well buddy your in trouble", said the spider to his prey
and as he headed down to breakfast he was clearly heard to say
"i'm just a spider in the bath tub you'd better face it your with a
spider in a bath tub
ridiculous".

Must have been a Cowboy
04:42
|
|||
"Must have been a cowboy" c.K.Murray
i must have been a cowboy
must have crossed the western ranges
i know i love the big wide sky
and to see the seasons changes
i love the wind upon my face
the sun across my back
i like sleepin in the open
and my coffee thick and black
i must have been a soldier
must have fought across the ages
i know the sign of fear in men
and i know to swerve their rages
i have no trust for presidents
i do not trust their speeches
i know the lies of history
and to question all they teach us
somehow we're connected to the stuff that makes the stars
through the matter in the universe
through time through family scars
when i look across the night sky
i can see across the years
i can sense the touch of those that came before
and fought to get me here
i must have been a bird of peace
must have flown across all nations
i never found no place to call home
never found no safe foundations
we worry for our childrens kids
we worry for good reason
cause democracy's just a comfort word
and slavery's back in season
somehow i'm connected to the stuff that makes the stars
through the matter in the universe
through time through family scars
when i look out on the night sky
i can see across the years
i can sense the touch of those that came before
and fought to get me here
we are all connected to the stuff that makes the stars
through all the matter in the universe
through time and family scars
when you look out on the night sky
you can see across the years
you can sense the touch of those that came before
and fought to get you here
i must have been a speck of cosmic dust adrift in space
i know my soul has travelled far to wear this human face
i know my family fell and rose to challenges and chance
i know that time dictates both when and if at all we dance.

Shadows in the Dark
06:26
|
|||
"Shadows in the Dark" c.K.Murray
"Well its almost academic" said the juggler to the fool.
"If you fail to pay the piper, rats return, well thats the rule
take our laws of economics add some math and common sense,
all our minstrels end up beggars, well its almost present tense.
In this hall of kings and other vermin, bullet traders dine.
While whores and comic singers watch their songsmiths serving wine
Do you see that dark haired beauty dancing naked on the bar,
they say she writes a powerful song her voice bright as the very star that
lights us yet she's a shadow in the dark."
"I think our gig is safe" said the fool "the people pay for laughs
and my moneys in munitions, i watch rising profit graphs every day."
then he heard the juggler say
"Your growing shadows in the dark,
growing shadows in the dark,
so let me shed some light here
let me shed some light here".
"If we only pay for bullets, if we only pay for crack,
if we only pay for juggling skills and musics free to hack,
then the only money left's in guns and drugs and circus tricks
all those kids that study music, waste their time learning new licks.
You cannot download talent, cannot download soul or brains
and you cant download rat catchers when the rats pour from your drains
in rat world no one earns a wage, no family safe and fed
all that we once valued dearly will be whispered or left unsaid
We'll hide like shadows in the dark"
"So do not think your gig is safe," said the juggler " thats not cool
if you let these longtails flourish you'll grow a bigger fool
every day and soon you'll have to stay a
shadow in the dark like a
shadow in the dark
so let us turn some lights on
let us turn some lights on
We'd better turn this current set of values on its head
if we don't then all our wages, well they'll soon be paid in lead
and we'd better free our songbirds and we'd better feed them soon
and free them from this twilight world to hear them praise the moon
well you could learn some satire and i'll learn to throw knives
and maybe we'll reduce these rats that seem to run our lives
and daylight will come sooner when the songbird and the lark
are free and fit for purpose chasing night and all its shadows in the dark
So lets us make our future safe" said the juggler " lets get cruel
and me and you go hunting where the vermin seem to rule everywhere."
and the fool said " that sounds fair, lets hunt some
shadows in the dark"
Together they turned lights on
someone turned their lights on
"honey leave a light on
i'll chase your shadows in the dark
honey leave a light on"

Angels Tears

"Angels Tears" c.K.Murray
Rise sing you beautiful angels
The sun came up the other day
he looked around, then went away
and the sky it filled with cloud, rain and grey
the people on the ground looked up then down
above their coats they wore a frown
and felt their moment passed them by
gloom spilled everywhere
and while he hid above the cloud, the moon she heard him say aloud
"You can't keep these guys happy, even when we shine
if they could see the view from here they'd see their worries disapear
and maybe learn to live together just like us.
to the moon he groaned "its all time loaned
and all they ever did was moaned they take everything for granted
even life itself".
"How long do you think you and me should hang around while they run free
i got better things to do than watch them while their feeling sad and blue
so heaven help me."
"Rise sing you beautiful angel".
"Rise sing you beautiful angels
sing rise you chorus of angels"
with velvet tongue the rising moon said "Honey you'll be setting soon
its just an off day that your having, my shift next".
"They're still just kids they're not all bad they just get grumpy like their dad
well we got lots in common in this here part of space
and we must watch them when they fall and hope that they grow strong and tall
like every parent must, so honey just relax and you
throw yourself a solar storm and we can show them sunsets warm
and paint the night with colour maybe tonight they'll sleep sound and dream
and put up your feet and rest awhile tonight i'll wear my crescent smile
and while their sleeping, maybe together we can turn tides
and when you rise we'll fill their skies with singing birds and butterflies
and hope and wonder and share our love
and next time babe when rain appears, romantics will see Angels tears
and like me know, that only you can chase the clouds away
away"
"oh you beautiful angel
oh you beautiful angels".
rise sing you beautiful angels
rise sing you beautiful angels
rise sing you beautiful angels
rise sing you beautiful angels

Time goes on

|

"Time Goes On" c.K.Murray
time goes on they say
but they're all wrong, its just a question of perspective
like this moment of conjective , if you
take this song, right here
you know that it won't last long, if no one takes a solo
in a minute its all over so
fly
on the back of every second
snatch the moment and check yourself
and if your still breathing well are you
wide awake
focus some attention on your heartbeat
and if it grows steady and stronger
gather your senses together and focus
make your time last longer
so let us
stretch some time
maybe together we can cross that line
tween the second and the hour
let the moment spring to flower
but take your time, cause you know
it feels just fine, in this moment of reflection
give the present some direction and
fly
on the back of every passing second
snatch the moment and
check yourself
and if your still breathing
well are you wide awake
focus some attention on your heartbeat
and if it grows steady and stronger
gather your senses together and focus
make your time last longer
time goes on they say
but they're all wrong
its just a question of perspective in this moment of conjective
if you took this song right here
it did'nt last long
fly
on the back of passing seconds
check yourself
well are you wide awake

New Day

|

"New Day" c.K.Murray
i used to be somebody i used to have a life
i used to have some prospects well i even had a wife
then luck made me a parent and i had to take that road
all my prizes up and vanished as i raised the seedlings sowed
and saw them grow
now i know that all the cliches i ignored
were simple truths and maybe more cause
every cloud has silver lining
you've no chickens till they hatch
don't leave anything to fate
and you will always meet your match
finding diamonds in the roughs tougher than needles in the thatch
and tomorrows a new day
i learned to fear the coming day became a hypocrite
i followed parent footsteps and i missed more than i hit
i caused my kids to scratch their heads in wonder at my ways
and even those of no relation found me hard work on most days
now i know
that if you let all of your feelings show
then you will reap some things you did'nt mean to sow
woken dogs bite
sticks and stones hurt when they strike
fortune often takes a hike
and if you've never seen the like
if your horizons lookin cloudy
tomorrows a new day
now my kids know me much better than i ever knew myself
and now that they have flown the nest
i'm put back on the shelf
but i'll not let the dust settle
i'll not fade away
and before i learn to shuffle this old
dog will have his day
in clover
and as i watch my kids at play
know nothings over
until that fat old lady sings
as long as cabbages are kings
and loves a many splendoured thing
as long as magpies harvest rings
well i will dance until a disney coloured
mornings birdsong brings that
new day
tomorrow is just a new day
tomorrow i'll find a new way
tomorrow is just a new day
tomorrow is just a new day

"Las Canteras" c.K.Murray
Hey Julio its sunday
and we're still on our feet
so lets go where we know the sky and oceans always meet
at Las Canteras
lets call the guys and tell them
to meet us on the street
we'll take the bus uptown and flirt with all the girls we meet
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
Sun in the sky
and happy people walking by
sound of surfbeat on the sand
julio tres guitarra
cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore
And Julio bring towels
and later we can swim
if anyones reluctant
we can always drag them into
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
And maybe we'll play football
against the local guys
pretend we're Marradona's
to catch their girlfriends eyes
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
Sun in the sky
and happy people walking by
sound of surfbeat on the sand
julio tres guitarra
cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore
And Julio when night comes
and the city's under starts
before the imans song
has sent us home via the bars of
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
Before we wake on monday
with the passing of the moon
we'll promise Las Canteras
we'll come back to see her soon oh
Las Canteras
Las Canteras
y mundo se ve mehore
julio tres guitarra
cantar et cancion
arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore
arregla la tristeza
y mundo se ve mehore
y mundo se ve mehore
